Kaizhang Drills, Setting Stake
1. In a mabu stance, do repeat kaizhang on the same side hand, opening both out to either side. Cross the arms in front of the body, then extend them square to the side, palms down. Be sure to extend the arms before they reach to the sides, using the power from the upper back – do not snap the arms. You can do this is a fairly static mabu, or shift back and forth for a bit of spring, but be sure to get power from the back, not from a weight shift.

2. In a mabu stance, do repeat kaizhang on the same side hand, opening both out to either side. This is the same, but with palms up.

3. In a mabu stance, do repeat kaizhang alternating sides.

Kaizhang Drills, Moving
1. Set back and step forward. Settle back into a T stance, then step forward into mabu kaizhang. You may alternate palm up and palm down, or do a number of the same. Change legs to change to the other arm and do repeats on that side.
