Pizhang drills

Pizhang Drills, Setting Stake

1. In a mabu feeling stance, do repeat pizhang on the same side hand.

2. In a mabu feeling stance, do repeat pizhang, alternating sides. Cross the arms and raise one arm, lowering the other, with a large circular action to keep the arms connected through the back. Then come down with the pizhang on one side, hooking the other hand behind.

3. In a mabu stance, do strong pizhang down in front. Raise each arm high with a large circular action, keeping the arms connected through the back, before coming down with the pizhang. Be sure not to lean forward. Be sure to use a pizhang power, not a yazhang power.

Pizhang Drills, Moving

1. Step forward into pizhang. Take a step, then step the other foot forward into a smooth stance, bringing the arm over and around to pizhang. Do not chop too low, to prevent the arm becoming trapped by an opponent.

2. Step forward into pizhang. Take a step, then step the other foot through, forward into a back weighted mabu feeling stance. Sometimes pizhang may continue down, especially when it is aligned with the front leg like this.
