Qiezhang drills

Qiezhang Drills, Setting Stake

1. In a mabu feeling stance, do repeat qiezhang on the same side hand, first raising the arm high up. You need to get power from the body core, with just a bit of spring from the legs, as you can’t use stepping to find power. Do a few repeats, then turn to change sides. Do not flick the arms. The rear arm crosses with the striking arm.

The qiezhang may be done in a horse stance or more standing up. It may cut across the body to the opposite knee or stay with the same side leg.

Qiezhang Drills, Moving

1. Stand up, lifting the arm high above the head and extending the other arm down. Step forward into mabu feeling stance and qiezhang with the raised arm. Repeat on the same side before switching sides.
