單勾換式 dan gou huan shi
The single hook Single Change trains the transverse stance, chuan stabbing, and shoulder strike. The footwork is similar to the dragon Single Palm Change in that it is a simple koubu and baibu. The feeling is quite different, though, lighter and more continuous, more like a bird or snake than a dragon.

Description: Starting in Single Hook form with the left hand in to the circle.
Action One: Right koubu, setting into the right leg. Turn the left palm down but essentially do not move the arm. This is a cut towards the opponent, preparing, but not moving much. Do not do a circling catch, but simply turn and the catch will be done.

Action Two: Left baibu to an open mabu, brace across with the left hand, keep the weight back on the right leg. Reach the left arm well out, aligned with the outside of the left thigh. Keep the right arm extended to the rear, the hand remaining hooked.
Action Three: Hook the left hand while simultaneously unhooking the right hand, stepping the right foot through to bring the right hand through to chuanzhang on the line of the circle, striking quite hard. This can also be a shoulder strike, so keep power to the hand so that the whole arm is alive.

Action Four: Turn to point to the circle centre and start walking. You may turn and start walking gradually, or turn, then start walking.
