4.6 Sixth Lion Change: Lion Swings Flatly

獅子雲片掌 shi zi yun pian zhang

The sixth lion change is also a shun change. Starting differently, the sixth change is essentially the same as the second change, except that you first change sides with the shun turn. So when you finish, you have already changed sides, and don’t have to do the first change.

Description: Starting in lion form with the left arm to the circle centre.

Action One: Take a small step to the outside with the outside (right) foot and open the arms, pressing down with the arm (right yazhang) on the outside.

Action Two: Step the left foot through to a left gaizhang, back around away from the circle line. Pull in a bit with the right hand.

Action Three: Sit firmly on the left leg and right baibu to mabu on the circle line with a lion right liaozhang.

Action Four: Left koubu to the outside, and step through to lion form chuanzhang. Then roll the ball over to lion form with the right hand in to the centre, ready for circle-walking. You have changed sides and are ready to circle-walk.

Variation

Instead of doing a step out to a large opening out press down and gaizhang at the beginning, simply hold the lion form and roll it through as you step. Then continue on to complete the change the same as the standard.
